Sour gas requires desulphurization. At least, in most cases. When hydrogen sulphide and CO2 have been separated with an amine system, the task of recovering the sulphur remains. Traditionally this is done with a Claus technology based system (wet or dry). These are the tools. And they haven't changed much over the past 50 years.
Your needs have shifted though: smaller (shale) multi-well natural gas fields in isolated locations, gas sources with relatively low H2S content and debottlenecking for refineries are quite common today.
Paqell proposes THIOPAQ O&G technology for a great number of these challenges as an interesting alternative for you to consider. An extra 'tool' in your box, offering sulphur removal and sulphur recovery in a single step wherever CO2 removal is not required or biological sulphur recovery only, treating the off gas of an upstream amine unit.
As a rule of thumb biological sulphur recovery by THIOPAQ O&G can be economically applied to desulphurization- or sulphur recovery projects of up to 150 t/d of sulphur.
They translate into relatively low CAPEX and OPEX numbers and safe and easy operation.

Several companies have developed agricultural fertilizers and fungicides based on the biosulphur produced with the THIOPAQ O&G units. A market for biosulphur now exists. As an alternative the biosulphur can be melted. Download our factsheet
